Main Highlights

2007

(18th of April) - a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Portuguese Government and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, in order to establish a long-term collaboration focused on emerging technologies, exploring mutual interests in science and technology oriented towards social well-being, economic growth and quality of life.

2008

(5th of May) – the Fraunhofer AICOS research center began its activities, as a joint project between the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and the Universidade do Porto.

(19th of August) - Fraunhofer AICOS starts working on its first Industry Contract Research.

(4th of November) - the Associação Fraunhofer Portugal Research (Fraunhofer Portugal) was officially founded. Fraunhofer Portugal was created to drive the collaboration framework defined in the initial MoU, as a vehicle to help establish Fraunhofer AICOS in Portugal.

2009

(15th of July) - Fraunhofer AICOS starts working on its first Government Contract Research.

2010

(12th of March) - the Portuguese Government formally declares Fraunhofer Portugal as an institution of Public Common Interest (Pessoa Colectiva de Utilidade Pública).
