Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft: “Research of Practical Utility”

Research of practical utility lies at the heart of all activities pursued by the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. Founded in 1949, the research organization undertakes applied research that drives economic development and serves the wider benefit of society. Its services are solicited by customers and contractual partners in industry, the service sector and public administration.

At present, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft maintains more than 80 research units in Germany, including 59 Fraunhofer Institutes. The majority of the 17,000 staff are qualified scientists and engineers, who work with an annual research budget of €1.5 billion.

Research Centers

Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS: “Remarkable Technology, Easy to Use"

Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS is the first operating research center of Fraunhofer Portugal. The research center will work in the areas of research and development for assistive information and communication environments such as Ambient Assisted Living.

FhP-AICOS is going to develop solutions for manufacturers and service providers. These solutions will provide new products and services for parts of the population that today have little or no access to modern information and communication technologies

 

Joint Ventures

IBERLog

The aim of IBERLog, an ISQ-Fraunhofer IML joint cooperation centre, is to promote the transfer of knowledge and technology from the North-European development centres to the Southwest-European market, offering consultancy services and developing new concepts and ideas to the market, in the areas of Logistics, Materials Flow and Process and Operations Organization.
