MSc and PhD students from Portuguese universities, be aware: the Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge 2022 is on! Until 31st of July, all students/researchers may apply with an idea based on a thesis. The idea contest, promoted by Fraunhofer Portugal, aims to motivate, and reward research of practical utility, through the attribution of a scientific prize to MSc and PhD students and researchers from Portuguese Universities.
In this 13th edition, the challenge is set: “Think Technology. Design the Future.” Innovative ideas that can give rise to technological solutions with a sustainable vision are welcome and, most importantly, may be awarded with a scientific prize. Science and technology are the main allies of the candidates for the Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge in seeking contributions to several challenges (as sustainable production and consumption, process sustainability, capacity building for early warning and health risk reduction, universal and equitable access to drinking water, among others).
The Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge consists of awarding the best ideas based on graduation theses that were developed having ‘Research of Practical Utility’ in mind. By this we mean ideas based on theses' concepts that clearly demonstrate a concern with the direct applicability of its results in industry and markets.
A new format has been launched this year: the Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge ON THE ROAD, which aims to bring students, researchers, and universities closer. Therefore, each year, a different University will be the official host of the idea contest. Universidade de Aveiro was the first and the kick-off took place on June with a roundtable on "The role of technology for sustainability" which brought to debate one of the most relevant topics, with experts in different areas.
