Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS

 

Fraunhofer Portugal currently materialises itself through two research centres. One of them is the Research Center for Assistive Information and Communication Solutions – AICOS (Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS), located in Porto and born in 2009 following a partnership between the Fraunhofer Society (Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft), the Foundation for Science and Technology and the University of Porto (UP).

From its debut with 12 employees, AICOS now has two offices in Portugal employing circa 100 researchers and a client portfolio from a broad range of sectors, such as Health, Information and communications technology (ICT) & Electronics, Manufacturing and Public Administration. AICOS has consolidated competence in:

Artificial Intelligence
Cyber-Physical Systems

AICOS’ track record in institutional and commercial collaborations has built a wide network of active partners. Since 2009, AICOS has been involved in 19 European projects and established partnerships with over 402 organisations in 37 countries.

Fraunhofer Portugal AWAM

 

The Research Center for Advanced Water, Energy and Resource Management – AWAM (Fraunhofer Portugal AWAM), with branches in Évora and Vila Real was created in 2019 from a partnership between the Fraunhofer Society (Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft), the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), the University of Évora (UÉ) and the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD).

FhP-AWAM develops technological solutions for a wide range of sectors such as agriculture, food and beverages production, (waste)water treatment, pulp and paper, (bio)energy and (bio)chemical industries.

FhP-AWAM conducts applied research and development with a clear customer focus to provide cutting-edge solutions for a sustainable circular economy in the following research areas:

Sustainable Crop Production
Water Treatment
Bioenergy

We propose new solutions and ideas for evolving products and services, from initial proof of concept up to pilot plant implementation.
