Job Description:
Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS is seeking a talented Hardware Scientist in embedded electronics to join our dynamic and multidisciplinary team within the Connected Things (Cyber-physical systems) Group, namely in Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs. The candidate is expected to contribute to the innovation area of Digital Futures.
Your role:
- Develop hardware for embedded devices;
- Design, tune, and optimize electronic circuits through simulation and lab experiments;
- Design and review wireless RF front-ends;
- Bring up, debug, and test new hardware designs;
- Write scientific (papers, reports, etc.) documentation.
Your profile:
- Mandatory Requirements:
> Academic Qualifications: Master's degree or equivalent academic qualification in Electrical and Computer Engineering or similar.
- Technical Skills:
> Candidates must have experience in the development of hardware and low-level firmware for embedded devices. Interest in industrial applications will be valued. Previous working experience in relevant areas will be highly regarded;
> Proficiency in ECAD tools such as Altium Designer and KiCad is required;
> Hands-on experience in electronics labs, including operation of oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and VNAs, is required.
- Other Skills:
> Excellent English communication skills (technical and general audiences);
> Capacity to translate research findings into actionable insights for real-world applications.

- Familiarity with simulation tools like SPICE;
- Programming skills in C and C++;
- Solid understanding of electronic architectures for constrained environments, including batteryless systems and energy harvesting;
- EMC/EMI knowledge for pre-compliance on radiated and immunity norms of developed electronic devices.
