Fraunhofer President “Manager of the Year 2009"

Germany-based manager magazine presents its “Manager of the Year 2009”. The six-person jury of economic experts selected Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hans-Jörg Bullinger, President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, as Manager of the Year. According to the official statement, under his management, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft “has contributed more than ever before to technological innovations and economic growth.”

Hans-Jörg Bullinger (in the left) considers his selection as “Manager of the Year” above all to be a recognition of the outstanding performance of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and the excellent work of the Fraunhofer institutes which have successfully advanced the research market even in difficult times. Therefore, he would like to dedicate this public recognition to the committed employees of Fraunhofer.

“We have a clear profile: applied research for the economy and society. And we have a precise task: Securing the future through innovation. Our work ethic is: to develop ideas where others give up,’” Bullinger explains. The momentum of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, also unhampered by the crisis, is founded by the model of success-oriented financing. It compels institutions to focus on the market and to tap into new markets. “Flexibility and response speed are qualities that are in high demand during times of crisis,” stresses Bullinger.

Hans-Jörg Bullinger, who has been Fraunhofer president since 2002, has consistently driven two things forward during his tenure: First: strategy development and portfolio process. Second: internal and external networking. Based on this, Fraunhofer successfully established itself as a powerful network for innovation, both domestically and abroad. At the same time, Bullinger also places his responsibility for Germany as a location of industry at the focus of his activities: “Only if we succeed in bundling strengths and networking competencies, we can achieve the critical mass and the penetration that is necessary to keep up in an internationally competitive environment. Nonetheless, we need to have the explicitly desire to keep ahead.”
