Fraunhofer Portugal Headquarters wins “Building of the Year 2011”!

Fraunhofer Portugal Headquarters was voted “Building of the Year 2011” in the “Interiors” category, by 65.000 online voters, in a competition promoted by ArchDaily.com - the world’s largest and most popular architectural website.

After reaching the final phase, among 30.000 candidates in 14 categories, Fraunhofer Portugal Headquarters was running with other 4 buildings for in the “Interiors” category. Since 21st February, ArchDaily.com promoted an online voting that would decide the winning building in each category – the voting period ended on the 7th of March and FhP Headquarters was the most voted building.

Located in the UPTEC building, in Porto, FhP Headquarters stands out for its “innovation-friendly” and highly usable interiors. According to Pedra Silva Architects, who designed the building’s interiors, the Fraunhofer’s innovative philosophy and the Fraunhofer Innovation Center in Stuttgart were their main sources of inspiration: “our design took into account Fraunhofer’s innovative philosophy trough a message that is simple, but at the same time positive and dynamic. Workplace layout and organizational elements from Fraunhofer Office Innovation Center in Stugard (Germany) were also an important input to the project, adding another layer to our concept.”

Fraunhofer Portugal moved to its new headquarters in May 2011 and the collaborators feedback on the new building was highly positive: a survey carried on among them in order to evaluate their opinions on the new working place showed that the vast majority is fully satisfied with it and considers it to be “optimal to achieve top notch results”.
